Poll Worker Positions

POLL MANAGER

• Pick up voting supplies the day before the election.
• Contact polling location to arrange set-up the night before the election and make sure the building will be open for the election.
• In charge of the other poll workers.
• Direct and communicate any problems on Election Day with the appropriate county personnel
• MUST have previous experience.

POLL WORKERS (May do one or more of the following)

• Assist Poll Manager
• Assist with provisional ballots and other registration difficulties.
• Look up voters names in the traditional Official Register (book) or an electronic register using a laptop computer.
• In charge of the Green or Blue Poll Book which includes writing down the names of each voter.
• In charge of the encoder.  Issue voter access cards to the voters and the "I Voted" stickers.

How much are Poll Workers paid?

Poll Workers are paid according to what job they are assigned.  Poll Managers are paid $200.  The other Poll Workers are paid $145.  These payments include the mandatory training.

 

What do Poll Workers do?

Poll Workers are assigned one of the above positions.  Please be aware that Poll Managers may make changes they feel are necessary to ensure an efficient Election.  All workers are required to stay at the Polling Location from before opening and after closing to assist with set-up and take-down.  Short breaks are allowed throughout the day, including lunch and dinner which must be eaten on site.  Make arrangements to bring food or to have someone drop something off.

 

How many hours am I required to work?

Poll Workers are required to be at the Polling location from approximately 6 AM to 9 PM. These times may vary according to the needs of your location and the voter turnout. You will also be required to attend a 3 hour training before the Election.

 

Can I work with friends?

YES!  We work hard to allow people to work with friends. Make a note on your application requesting those you'd like to work with. Please be aware that not everyone's requests can be met for every Election, there are hundreds of positions that need to be filled.

 

Where will I be working?

We work hard to assign Poll Workers to their own voting precinct. That is not always possible so we try and assign Poll Workers as close to home as we can.  Typically no more than 15 miles.
