- The adoption counselor determines pet/adoptor compatability and will answer any questions that may arise.
- Adoption is granted or refused.
Granting or Refusing Adoption

Steps to Complete Adoption
Once the adoption has been approved the necessary forms must be filled out and recorded.
- Adoption agreement must be completed with the following provisions:
- Allowing thirty (30) days from the adoption date to have the animal spay/neuter. Allowing up to four (4) months of age to have the animal spay/neuter if animal is under four (4) months of age.
- Current address and phone number must be on all adoption agreements. Picture identification is required for all adoptions and drivers license numbers recorded on paperwork.
- Adoption agreement signed.
- Any dog that is four (4) months or older will be required to be licensed with the appropriate city within thirty (30) days of adoption.
- Impound record information on animal must be completed with new adoptors name and information on back of impound card.
- Certificate for spay/neuter will be issued.
- An adoption packet will be issued to the new animal owner with additional information aiding the new owner in becoming a responsible pet owner.
- After all of the above requirements and steps have been filled, the adoption is complete and the agreement can be separated and properly distributed as follows:
- The white copy is attached to the impound card.
- The yellow copy is the adoptors permanent record.
- The gold and pink copies will accompany the animal to the veterinarian and will be signed by the veterinarian at the time of spay/neuter. The veterinarian submits the pink copy for payment for the spay/neuter service and keeps the yellow copy for their permanent record. The pink copy will eventually be filed in the permanent adoption file of the animal.
