More than 14 years have passed since Jennifer graduated from Weber State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and began working in the Golden Spike Event Center’s accounting department. From its infancy, Jennifer has worked to build a positive reputation for the facility. With help from her dedicated staff, she has helped meet the goals of the county commissioners. She capitalizes on her listening, researching and decision-making skills to meet budgets and deadlines. In the next few years Jennifer hopes to see a new variety of events make their home at the Golden Spike Event Center.
Jim Harvey: General Manager
For 11 years Jim has kept the motto “People come first.” His talents for listening and patience allow him to develop relationships based on trust. He loves providing a facility that keeps extremely satisfied customers coming back. Jim has overseen the growth of the Golden Spike Event Center in a myriad of ways. There are more than 250 events and the staff in unified efforts, caters to all types of events and customers. Jim’s education in Public Relations and Marketing has given him the tools to build the GSEC into a well-oiled machine. He knows relationships are important and strives to understand his clients and staff.
Amy King: Event Coordinator
Bringing new businesses and events to the Golden Spike Arena is Amy’s forte. For eight years she has booked hundreds of equestrian events and successfully brought new events to the arena every year. Amy performs flawlessly under stressful situations. She knows if she and other staff members are customer oriented, disasters big or small work out in the end. Having been involved in the equine industry for many years, Amy knows from a customer’s point of view how the event should run. Developing strong relationships with her customers is Amy’s number one goal. She wants events to run smoothly and customers to rebook for future events.
Debbie Shelton: Event Coordinator
Planning, coordinating and supervising weddings, parties, cultural events, guns shows, demolition derby’s and youth rodeos are what Debbie's expertise. With more than seven years of volunteer coordinating experience, she has learned how to plan for the unexpected. Refining her “attention to detail skills” has made the events smoother and better managed. Debbie knows that each event is important and excels in making suggestions that benefit both the customer and the Golden Spike Event Center. Customers know their needs will be taken care of. Everything from parking, event space and security is handled effortlessly by Debbie.
Sharlene Call: Office Coordinator
As the first person people see or talk to when dealing with the Golden Spike Event Center, Sharlene makes sure she represents the facility well. She is a great listener and wants everyone to be pleased with the Golden Spike Event Center’s facilities. For the last 10 years, Sharlene has perfected the talent of knowing the office and event schedule like the back of her hand. She also knows where to direct tough questions if she doesn’t already know the answer. She has developed events that generate revenue for the Event Center, as well as provide a service to the community. She has fun with her job.
Kris Jorgensen: Box Office Coordinator
Handling money and balancing books are only a few of Kris' talents. With 22 years of banking and credit union experience, she knows organization is the key. She has learned to improvise and make a situation work even when things go wrong. Kris developed the idea of sending an area map with ordered tickets so people will know where the events and attractions are when they get the Golden Spike Event Center. She also makes sure all the ticketed events are coordinated by processing all phone orders, balancing ticket sales at the end of the event, providing ticket counts before events start and working with Data-tix to provide ticket formation and sales plans for each event.
Lynn Brown: Facilities Manager
For the last four years Lynn has run a tight ship. Coordinating event set up and tear down isn’t a little job, especially when he directs 20 employee schedules which run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After working for the Ogden Defense Depot for more than 30 years, Lynn has the foundation needed for smooth running events. He makes sure every event has security, electrical power, sound and the necessary ground preparations for a problem free event.
Kim Wood: Food and Beverage Manager
Everyone knows food either makes or breaks the event, so Kim does what it takes for a successful party. For more than 16 years, she’s been creating menus that accommodate all group sizes. Kim loves to create special requests from clients. She will find a way to get the new or unique dishes they want and within budget. Her organization and delegation skills allow her to make sure everything is perfect for the event and nothing has been missed. Kim has a talent to stay within budget. She's a great resource for your event needs.
Karen Harbertson :
Assistant Food and Beverage Manager
Meticulous record keeping of food needs makes Karen's job easy. She knows exactly what sells at events and how much to order. She knows people enjoy concessions and that the concessions enhance any event. Coordinating 40 employees to make the event concessions run smoothly is what Colleen is most efficient at. She and her employees have pulled off emergency concessions on more than one occasion. She attributes concession successes to organization, communication and great employee unity.
