We accept applicants from Utah-based colleges. Interns will work with the Division of Health Promotion under the supervision of Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES). Interns will complete objectives in several program areas, obtain hands-on experience in the CHES competencies, and gain a better understanding of what it means to be a Community Health Educator. Position is paid through a stipend upon completion of internship hours. Stipend amount is based on the number of hours completed. Mileage reimbursement is also provided.
What sets us apart from other internships? Most provide an intern with experience in one program area. By contrast, we provide students with experience in all of our health promotion programs – an important edge when entering the job market. Students that complete an internship with our agency will complete objectives in the following program areas:
- Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity Prevention (PANO)
- Teen Pregnancy Prevention (Future Method Program)
- Tobacco Prevention
- Injury Prevention
Possible objectives include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the Gold Medal Schools and Tobacco on Trial Programs
- Planning and implementing a worksite wellness program
- Conducting presentations on various topics
- Attending car seat checkpoints and various safety events
- Assisting in planning and implementing community events and campaigns
- Attending Teen Tobacco Reduction classes and various anti-tobacco events
Students must be pursuing a degree in Health Education or a closely related field. Must have completed a Program Planning class (or be currently enrolled) and be eligible to begin working toward internship credits. Schedules are flexible, however, applicants must be able to complete a minimum of 200 hours and maintain consistent hours. Applicants must be dependable, computer literate, organized, self motivated, tobacco-free, and enthusiastic about improving health in the community. Applicants should also have reliable transportation and good communication skills.
Positions are available for Fall, Spring and Summer Semesters. To apply, please fill out the application form and fax to (801) 399-7185. In addition to the application, please submit a copy of your resume to email@example.com. Applications and resumes are accepted at any time throughout the year.
