INTERESTED IN A LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER?
Purpose

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office will use the Explorer program to recruit youth desiring to work as a volunteer through the co-operation of the Boy Scouts of America as a recruitment tool in order to fill future Sheriff’s Office positions.
Who can join?
Both male and female are encouraged to participate and must qualify under the following conditions:

  • Between the ages of 16-21
  • Have no criminal background
  • No illegal drug use
  • Have a high school diploma/G.E.D. or be enrolled.
  • Willing to volunteer hours training and working details alongside Weber County Deputies
  • Be of sound health, possessing no deficiency which would deter them from a law enforcement career.
  • Have written permission from parents or legal guardian to participate in the WCSO Explorer Program if less than 18            years of age.

Program
Explorers meet twice monthly at the Weber County Sheriff’s Office and are required to pay a $5.00 monthly due. Dues help cover the cost of training and activities, which include firearms, traffic control, Defensive Tactics, first aid/CPR and many other informative classes offered to the group. Explorers are also allowed to participate in ride-alongs with our Patrol Deputies as well as in both of our Correctional facilities. Many of our former Explorers are now employees of the Sheriff’s Office either as sworn or Non-Sworn.
