Within the Enforcement Division is the
Investigations and Support Bureau.
The Detective Unit consists of one sergeant
and several detectives and holds the task of follow-up or
continued investigation of Weber County Sheriff's Office cases
as initially reported to the Patrol Section deputies.
Also included in this bureau are detectives
assigned to special task forces. One sergeant and one detective
are assigned to the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force (WMNSF),
a multi-agency unit that investigates narcotics violations
throughout all of Weber and Morgan counties.
One detective is assigned to the Northern
Utah Criminal Apprehension Team (NUCAT), an FBI task force
that apprehends fugitives.
The Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit,
is a specially trained and skilled group of forensic technicians
that respond to crime scenes throughout Weber County. They
photograph, document, collect evidence, and reconstruct crime
scenes as well as analyze forensic and trace evidence, fingerprint
classification and identification. They are also qualified
to testify as experts in a court of law within their field
of expertise.
The Investigations and Support Bureau is
currently commanded by Lt. Doug Coleman.
Captain Shaw is a 22-year veteran of the
Weber County Sheriff's Office, entering law enforcement in
1981. Shortly after joining the Weber County Sheriff's Office
he received a Bachelors Degree from Weber State University.
Captain Shaw has served as commander over Detectives, Judicial
Services, Operations, Homeland Security Commander and is currently
serving as commander for the Enforcement Division. He also
served as Venue Commander at Snowbasin Ski Resort during the
2002 Winter Olympics. Prior to the Olympics, he played a key
role in the planning efforts behind public safety issues,
being assigned as an Olympic planner six years earlier. Captain
Shaw is also a graduate of Session 196 of the FBI National
Academy at Quantico, Virginia.
