11-13-2014 -- Monte Cristo Highway to close Monday Nov 17

Ogden-- The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises motorists and outdoor recreation enthusiasts that state Road 39, the Monte Cristo Highway, will close to all traffic for the winter at midnight on Monday morning, November 17.

SR-39 will close between milepost 37 at the Ant Flat Road area east of Huntsville, Weber County, and milepost 56 near Woodruff, Rich County. Once the gates are closed and locked, the entire length of the roadway between these two points will remain out of service to all traffic through approximately late May 2015.

This highway is closed for the winter months each year because of safety concerns and the prohibitive costs of keeping it open to traffic. Motorists who normally travel this route should use I-84, I-80, Utah's SR-16 and SR-167, and Wyoming state Road 89 to access the communities immediately east and west of the winter road closure.

For 24-hour information about all road conditions, visit, or download the free Utah Traffic App, available for download in the iPhone App Store and for Android smartphones at Google Play.
